TARGET: Tagisang Robotics

FEW YEARS ago, Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. made another milestone when it introduced Robotics as one of its curriculums. That lead to one of the biggest decisions the institution made-to participate in different contests involving Robotics. That decision was not a mistake.
The DYCI Robotics Team started to reach for their dreams when they joined the 7th Philippine Robotics Olympiad wherein they, considering that they were just amateurs then, placed as fourth in the Open Category. After a year, DYCI bagged the champions in the 8th PRO and was awarded as one of the finalists in the World Robot Olympiad in the same category. It did not ended with that. In the 9th PRO, the Primes won the champions again in the open category but this time they are awarded as World Champions in the 2010 WRO. And though they are already called as the Avant-Gardes, the team was still able to prove their title upon placing second in the open category of the 10th PRO and being given another chance to represent the country in the 2011 WRO to be held in Abu Dhabi.
But this year, it is not only the Avant-Gardes who would be facing great challenges. This year, DYCI is making another milestone after joining, for the first time, a “real deal” robotics competition-Tagisang Robotics. But in order for DYCI to face the challenge, it needs a team to represent it. And so emerged the DYCI Trojans, our team.
After the Game Reveal held last July 28th, our team has started to formulate our plans and strategies on how will we play in the competition. And now with the competition now fast approaching, the DYCI Trojans is now on its full throttle preparing our robot. We started learning the basics in the early weeks of June on the current school year then started the construction of our robot last September 13th. The driving base was built within five days and a week was allotted to program the robot’s basic movements. Some more adjustments and our robot will ready for war… to play, I mean.
All of us is excited, though under time pressure. What keeps us going 24/7 is our one dream to harness our skills, our courage to face whatever endeavor may come and our faith that all of our skills comes from the Lord and thus we dedicate whatever achievements we would receive to Him. Win or lose, surely God will make good cause. Because this year DYCI Trojans will make a goal and our target is TAGISANG ROBOTICS…

GETTING TO KNOW THE TROJANS

A team will not be called as such if there are no members that composes it. And so as you browse through our blog site we think that you ought to know who we are, who the Trojans are. But before you get to know the members, you better know first why are we called as Trojans…
We are all probably familiar with the story of the Iliad. It highlights the war between the Myrmidons lead by Achilles and the Trojans. The war eventually leads to the fall of Troy. Troy fell after being deceived and accepting the Trojan Horse-a “gift” from the Myrmidons that is loaded with fully armed Myrmidons. Drunk and tired, the Trojans are invaded and defeated easily. If we would consider the plot of the story, the Trojans are the ones who were defeated.  So why are we called the Trojans?  Because we would compete in Tagisang Robotics to surprise, not to be surprised. Yes, it is the first time that our school will join such competition, but as our beloved coach, Sir Romyr Gimeno, said, “Being new to the competition is not an excuse for us to lose”. But win or lose, what’s important is that we gave our best to glorify the Lord.
